Prestige and meta progression
How ShredDead prestige works: 15 points to spend, what the trees behind it give, why the 20% DNA discount is the pick most players take, and when to do it.
ShredDead has a prestige layer: reset the run, keep points, spend them on permanent perks. It is real, it is optional, and most players do it exactly once.
The shape of it
Prestige wipes your run and returns prestige points. Players report a cap of 15 points. The perks behind those points are permanent, which makes prestige the only way to carry power between runs.
You do not need to prestige to finish. Multiple players report beating all five waves and unlocking every achievement without resetting, and the achievement data backs that up: Final Stand (all five waves on the highest difficulty) sits at 20.3% while the game has only been out two days.
What the points buy
| Perk type | Reported effect | Worth it? |
|---|---|---|
| DNA cost reduction | 20% cheaper upgrades | Yes — the one perk nearly everyone names |
| Damage bonus | Higher damage for your units | Situational |
| Fire rate bonus | Faster shooting for your units | Situational |
| Minor stat perks | Small percentage bumps | Only after the discount |
The discount is the outlier because it compounds: every purchase in the rest of the run gets cheaper, and late-game DNA costs are large enough that 20% is a different game. One player describes taking exactly one prestige for the discount and then going straight through.
When to prestige
- Not before wave 5. You are throwing away a run you have not cashed.
- When upgrades cost more than a wave earns. That is the signal the curve has outrun your income.
- Once, for the discount, unless you enjoy the loop. Players who prestiged multiple times report the later points do not change much.
The honest caveat
Several players say the prestige layer does not add content: no new map, no new mode, no new enemies, just percentage perks. If you are hoping prestige opens a second act, it does not. It is a numbers reset with a permanent tail, and the difficulty page is where actual replay variety lives right now.
Reset checklist
- Finish wave 5 and bank the achievements.
- Screenshot your tree so you know what to rebuild.
- Back up your save first — there is no Steam Cloud, as the saves page explains.
- Prestige, take the discount, and rebuild down the same skill tree path you already know.
