Can you lose in ShredDead?
No. There is no fail state. The store description says it plainly, the developer's release post repeats it ("no losing, no pressure"), and it is the single most debated thing on the Steam forum. If you want a fail state, this is not that game.
How long is ShredDead?
Player reports from the first two days: 3 to 4 hours for a fast run, 5.3 to 6 hours typical for 100%, 11 to 12 hours for players who kept pushing past the clear. The achievement data agrees — 20.3% of players have already cleared all five waves on the highest difficulty, two days after launch.
Does prestige matter?
It exists, it is capped at 15 points, and the one perk nearly everyone names is the 20% DNA cost reduction. Most players prestige once for it and stop. It is not required to finish the game. Details on the prestige page.
Does the demo save carry over?
No. The demo was rebalanced before release, so progress starts fresh. Players confirmed this in the discussions and the answer is consistent across threads. Back up nothing from the demo; see saves and progress.
Is there Steam Cloud?
No. Steam Cloud is not in the store's feature list for ShredDead. Progress lives on the machine you play on. That matters if you split time between a desktop and a laptop — the saves page covers what to copy.
Can the game pause while I upgrade?
No. The upgrade screen does not stop the simulation; kills and income keep running. In an incremental game that is the point, but if you were expecting a pause button, that is why it is not there.
How many maps are there?
One, at launch. "Please add more maps" is a live request thread on the Steam forum, unanswered as of 28 October 2026.
Why did the screen go dark?
Changing resolution can leave the scene almost black. Clicking something in the upgrade screen usually brings it back, and restarting fixes it. It is written up on known issues.
Does it run on a Mac?
Yes, natively. macOS Big Sur 11 or newer, Apple M1 or Intel Core i5, 4 GB RAM, 1 GB storage. There is no Linux build, so Steam Deck runs it through Proton. See Steam Deck and Mac.
Is there anything to buy after the game?
No microtransactions are listed on the store page, and none appear in the discussions. One purchase, one game.
Does it work with a controller?
Full controller support is listed, including DualShock and DualSense. The skill tree is faster with a mouse, but everything is playable on a pad.
